Stuart Diamond died three days before his trip back to Scotland to spend Christmas and New Year with his family.
According to Diamond's daughter, Michelle Pol, the family were shocked and devastated, and the cause of her father's death was still unknown.
Michelle also added: “Because of distance and language barrier, we are still waiting for confirmation of the cause of his death.
“All we know
is he became ill a few days before and ended up in hospital where he died on
December 20.
“His funeral
took place on Christmas Eve, the day after he had been due to travel home.
“In keeping
with Thai culture, dad was cremated.
“The funeral
took place in Bangkok and Udon Thani, the village where he lived.”
Michelle also revealed her dad only married Thai national Somoh last month.
“We are all
shocked and saddened,” she said.
“I’d bought
him a present this year because he was coming home to spend Christmas with us
for the first time in ages.”
Michelle said
her dad spent part of his childhood in Glamis, where his mother Elizabeth was
well-known for running the village shop and post office.
After he left
school, he worked at Wilkies factory in Kirriemuir, before becoming involved
with laying pipes in the oil industry.
His work took
him all over the world, including Russia, Algeria, Italy and Portugal. He moved
to Thailand in 1998.
Michelle said
Mr Diamond divided his time between Thailand and Scotland and most recently
lived in Coupar Angus.
She added:
“Dad loved the Thai culture and really embraced the Thai way of life.
“However, he
also loved Scotland and enjoyed coming home to have banter with friends and
family.”
A celebration
of Mr Diamond’s life will be held at the Red House Hotel in Coupar Angus today.
He also
leaves behind daughters Donna, Nadia and Sabrina, son Nathan and grandchildren
Carla and Dylan.
