Suvarnabhumi taxi driver returns THB90,000 cash to Hong Kong national

Earlier this week a story of a Suvarnabhumi taxi driver who duped two Swiss men into paying 6,000 baht went viral. But not all faith is lost because there are still kind and honest cabbies in Bangkok.

Wattana Pornkongkaew didn't just return a bag containing 20,000 HKD (90,662 baht), 869 baht, credit cards and a passport to a Hong Kong national yesterday, but he also restored people's faith in humanity particularly to Bangkok cabbies.

The Hong Kong national was identified as Huang Xuepeng, who immediately showed his appreciation to Wattana by hugging him when he showed up at his hotel on Sukhumvit soi 26.

Wattana said he picked up the man from Suvarnabhumi International Airport, but Huang got out of the car before arriving at his hotel because of the traffic, which meant Wattana didn’t know where exactly he was staying, Coconuts Bangkok reported.

When Wattana spotted Huang’s bag on the backseat of his car, he immediately contacted officials at Suvarnabhumi Airport to help him track down the passenger. Fortunately Huang had also been in touch with staff at the airport, who arranged a meeting between the tourist and taxi driver, added Coconuts Bangkok.

The tourist promised he would tell people in Hong Kong how honest Thai taxi drivers are.

Wattana received a certificate and some souvenirs from Suvarnabhumi Airport as a reward for his honesty, Thairath reported.
